![]() I find the focusrite mixer simpler and more flexible than audio in OBS (I have 18i20 and can have 2 separate headphone mixes, both different than actual output mix) plus I get all the DAW functionality (example is I can play music pretty loud and have DAW duck it behind voice when I am singing/talking) + I use exactly the same setup for recording audio - just lazy! I just bring in DAW1 and DAW2 into the Focusrite mixer and that is Desktop Audio left & right (I think this is true even if you don't have a DAW). As a result, I'm already sitting on the tools to create a really polished product. I'm a sound engineer on the side, plus my wife's a musician and VO. I need people to retain and internalize what I'm presenting it can have a huge impact on clinical trial outcome, data integrity, and patient safety. ![]() I just need to be able to run the multiple sends to the appropriate inputs.Īs to why I'm going to this effort for "mere" Hangouts/Skype meetings? Because I can't be there in person where I'm able to "work" the room. Managing the audio is a bit more work, but running the audio mix through OBS looks like the best option. Setting the video up in it is pretty easy. I've been using OBS for my video scene management across multiple cameras and monitors. In the latter, I'll be wanting game, mics, "guest" audio and iPad (my cart). My wife may be doing similar (specific requirements still TBD) and my son and I have been contemplating some Twitch streaming, as well. While I'm at it, I'd also like to run my Izotope plug-ins both to master my voice on the fly, as well as run some clean-up on inputs coming from guests or "callers." My PC has more than enough horsepower to do that, so why not see if I can provide the extra polish on the live end? I've already got the plugins tuned for my use. I know how to do that, it's just getting around to the bother. (I've been considering setting up Aux mixed monitoring, so each person in studio can have a custom mix. I'll also need monitor outputs for my cans. I'll also need a demux'ed output that I can edit and master for on-demand use. That's all going through the mixers 4 group outs to the 18i8's 5-8 analog ins, leaving me its 1-4 inputs for general purpose needs. I need to send my PC audio out separately from my mixer outputs which is handling my mics, phone hybrid, iPad, and misc input sources (as needed). In this case, it's a matter of supporting my teleconferencing for work. I do have specific tasks to accomplish, but I've always been one of those people who has to learn the subject, not just follow a recipe. hashtag-facepalmĪs to your latter? It's actually both. Yeah, it's "only" gen 2, but one of the reasons I got it was in case I ever needed to do a SPDIF loopback. It's not so much a recommendation, but knowledge and experience with the technologies that I'm seeking. I'd really like to hear from someone who has worked with both. I've searched, but have not been able to find a head-to-head comparison of the two. ![]() I'm assuming both will work equally well. I will, most likely, be also mixing and routing OBS through Voicemeeter in order to feed telecon and Focusrite outputs, as well as potential recording of live streams. My real concern is which works best with regards to things like reliability, latency, etc? It's a huge concern that any option has to "play nice" with OBS, my Focusrite drivers, the onboard Realtek audio, and everything from Pro Tools to Reaper to Audacity. Less cost, but more limited in the number of available patches. The second are the VB-Cable A+B and C+D from VB-Audio, the same guys that make Voicemeeter. It costs a bit more than the alternative, but provides effectively unlimited virtual cables. What to watch for? What are the gotchas? etc.įirst there's Muzichenko's original VAC. ![]() ![]() I'm curious about any advice and or experience running virtual cables. This is new for me, though I have plenty of experience with real-world patching on sound systems, as well as being very comfortable technically (engineer on the day job). I'm needing to run some virtual audio cables for some internal patching in my computer. ![]()
